Fiorentina continued their trend of adding outcasts from top clubs in January and, after Cher Ndour from PSG and Nicolò Zaniolo from Atalanta via Galatasaray, they shook hands with Juventus to onboard Nicolò Fagioli in the final hour of the window.

According to TuttoSport, the Viola will spend €2.5M for the loan, €13.5M to acquire him eventually, plus €3M potential add-ons and 10 percent of a future sale. They hope to replicate the success of the Moise Kean deal.

Fagioli left Juventus to head to Fiorentina after ten years in Turin. The Bianconeri supported him throughout his betting-related suspension but he didn’t find much room in Thiago Motta’s schemes. He has appeared 22 times, assisting twice, although primarily off the bench.

The Bianconeri held onto Andrea Cambiaso, as Manchester City didn’t bid for him. Instead, Manchester United tabled an offer for Douglas Luiz, but the Old Lady cashed in on their youth product instead.

The two moves formally occurred with the opposite timing, but the fact that the Old Lady spent for a defender, Lloyd Kelly, after extensively looking for a flier heavily hinted at a sale. He was the odd man out in the midfield as, trait-wise, he’s Teun Koopmeiners deputy, who rarely ever rests. He paid the price for their numerous summer acquisitions in his role, who inevitably had given their price tags, and all panned out but Luiz. His last few cameos left a lot to be desired, but it’s tough to show up when given sparse opportunities. The Viola needed a real alternative to Yacine Adli and took two pretty good stabs at it.
