Juventus aren’t any closer to signing a new goalkeeper, as the talks for Emiliano Martinez are going backward. New candidates are popping up daily. The Bianconeri are unsure of the cost of signing the Argentine, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
New CEO Giovanni Carnevali pressed pause on the negotiation after Aston Villa asked for €10M plus add-ons for the 34-year-old. He would have commanded a €5.5M annual salary.
Juventus also probed Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, as Napoli are set to make some changes in the role. Marco Carnesecchi figures to be too expensive. The Old Lady inquired about Lucas Chevalier, who lost the starting job at PSG in January following a €40M transfer from Lille. Guglielmo Vicario is itching to return to Serie A and remains on the Bianconeri’s radar, like Fiorentina’s David De Gea.
Napoli are also pondering the Spurs man, Sky informs. His price tag is higher than Martinez’s, around €18/20M, but he’d make less wages-wise, and he’s younger. Conversely, the Old Lady could also take a look at Alex Meret, who contributed to Luciano Spalletti’s Scudetto in Campania a few seasons back. He was edged out by his teammate mostly due to injury last season.
The change at the top contributed, but it has become what they had been trying to avoid, a wild-goose chase, with a high risk of making the final choice look like a fallback no matter what, which isn’t ideal. We’ll see whether Carnevali is on board with the idea of signing a super-experienced and decorated specialist, which makes sense only for a low price. Vicario isn’t world-class but would still be an improvement.
