Juventus to Scramble Financially After Ousting Motta

Juventus considered giving Thiago Motta a final chance against Genoa, but it would have been more for financial reasons than out of conviction that he could turn things around. Postponing the coaching change to April would have helped their balance sheets. Its cost would have fallen in a different trimester, giving the team time to find ways to offset it, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Bianconeri owe their former coach and his staff about €14M and will have to set aside them. He was making €3.5M per year. Igor Tudor and his assistants will weigh about €1M. It’s an unforeseen expense that complicates the road to making the club self-sufficient economically.

Juventus need to contain the losses to stay afloat in terms of equity. They were already walking a tightrope to achieve that before the recent turn of events. To compensate for it, they might have to complete a big sale in the new transfer window before the Club World Cup at the beginning of June. Or the holding Exor will have to intervene with a capital increase. They signaled they didn’t want to do it in the recent past.

Thiago Motta maintained his aplomb in bidding farewell in a statement to Ansa.

“I’ve lived intense moments and always tackled them with the utmost determination and desire to improve day after day. I thank the owner for giving me the chance to be part of this club, the officials and all the employees for supporting me in my daily work, the players for their effort since our first day together. I wish the fans and Juventus the best for the future.”
