Kalvin Phillips has joined Sheffield United on loan from Manchester City after deadline day movement, having previously been linked with a Leeds United return. According to Leeds Live, Chris Wilder has praised the midfielder’s attitude and said he looks ready for the battle ahead.

At City since 2022, he has struggled for minutes, registering only one appearance this season, the final seven minutes of the Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield in September. He has since had loans at West Ham and Ipswich Town, and now Sheffield United.

A return to Elland Road was mooted before the window. City were said to be willing to listen to offers of around £10million for the 30-year-old, yet another loan was agreed.

Wilder called it a good 48 to 72 hours for the club as Joe Rothwell, Phillips and Leo Hjelde arrived. He said Phillips does not need cosseting, praised his career, and described him as in good shape but in need of rhythm over two to four games.

The manager added that Phillips has already impressed with his attitude despite only 24 hours at the training ground. Rothwell earned similar praise, and Wilder said both players wanted to join and help.

Phillips, Hjelde and Rothwell were introduced to supporters during Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Oxford City at Bramall Lane.

His experience could be vital as United chase the play-offs, with the side eight points behind sixth-placed Wrexham. He could debut at home to promotion hopeful Middlesbrough on Monday, 9 February.
