Karim Adeyemi has revealed the decisive role Hansi Flick played in convincing him to join FC Barcelona, with the German forward describing the coach as the “main reason” he is now at the club.
As quoted by SPORT, Adeyemi spoke about Flick’s influence during his official presentation as a Barca player. The new signing has committed his future to the club until 2031 and is now eager to begin training with his new teammates.
Adeyemi made no attempt to hide just how important Flick was in his decision. He said:
“He is the main reason why I am here. I have spoken with him from the beginning and I am here for whatever he needs.”
The forward admitted that Barcelona’s approach even surprised him after a difficult previous campaign.
“When I found out, I couldn’t believe it because my last season wasn’t my best. Flick is a pillar. He told me to come, but that I had to give everything.”
That existing relationship could prove important for Adeyemi’s adaptation. Flick handed him his senior Germany debut and clearly believes he can get more from a player whose speed and versatility offer Barca something different.
Adeyemi also made it clear that he has no demands regarding his position. He said:
“I don’t care where I play. I have played in every attacking position. I will play wherever the coach tells me and wherever I can help the team most.”
That flexibility should be valuable given Barcelona’s wealth of attacking options. Adeyemi has experience on both wings and through the middle, potentially allowing Flick to use his pace in several different roles.
The 24-year-old also spoke enthusiastically about potentially playing alongside Lamine Yamal, describing the teenager as an “incredible” player and backing him as a possible Ballon d’Or winner.
However, Adeyemi dismissed comparisons between Lamine and his own idol, Lionel Messi. He said:
“I don’t think Lamine will be angry if I say nobody will be like Messi. Everyone has to be themselves.”
For Barca supporters, the most encouraging part of Adeyemi’s presentation was his attitude. He arrives aware that his previous season was below his best, but with a coach who knows him, trusts his qualities and personally pushed for his arrival.
