The experienced keeper will see his deal come to an end when this season concludes. When questioned about his situation at club level ahead of Denmark’s crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Belarus and Scotland over the next week, the veteran shotstopper spoke only about when he plans to get round the table with the Hoops hierarchy.

“The club has bigger things to think about than my contract right now,” he said via Daily Record. “We have always had an agreement that we will talk about the future quietly in February or March.”
“We have to see where we stand by then. Right now, we have a special situation at the club, so my focus is not on my contract at all. It has become so in the world of football that as soon as you are 28 years old, you are old – and then suddenly I am far, far too old,” the Celtic goalkeeper said.
“As soon as there is a three-digit number in front of the age, no one will make a contract longer than six months into the future.”

The 39 year-old remains Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper and has featured in 18 games for the team this season. He has recorded seven shutouts in 11 league matches and has been in fine form since Martin O’Neill became interim boss two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Celtic have asked for Sebastian Tounekti to be released from his call-up to the Tunisia national team.
Tounekti received a national team call-up for Tunisia’s upcoming friendly matches against Mauritania, Jordan, and Brazil this month. However, according to AfricaFoot, Celtic have formally asked the Tunisian Football Federation to allow the 23-year-old a ten-day break.
It is reported that the Scottish champions included a medical report outlining Tounekti’s thigh injury recovery along with their request.
