Tottenham have condemned racist abuse of Kevin Danso after the 2-2 draw with Brighton. The Austrian defender was targeted on social media.
The club said in a statement that he has been, and continues to be, subjected to significant racist messages and that it is working with social media platforms and the authorities on potential legal proceedings, while offering him full support and condemning the abuse as abject and dehumanising, behaviour it considers a criminal offence that will not be tolerated, and setting out that no one at the club will face this alone, that criticism of performances is part of the game but racism is not, and that racism has no place at Tottenham Hotspur or in football.
Identified content has been reported to the Metropolitan Police and to the relevant authorities, as well as to X and Instagram. It will seek the toughest possible sanctions against every person identified.
The incidents came during a Premier League round promoted under No Room For Racism. Danso, a former Lens centre-back and an Austria international, also received racist messages directly.
On the pitch, the draw leaves Spurs in the relegation places on 31 points. West Ham and Nottingham Forest could pull further clear if they win during this 33rd round.
