The influential midfielder was unable to play on against Inter Milan

Manchester City are sweating over the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne ahead of Sunday's showdown with Arsenal after he was forced off injured last night.

The City midfielder sustained a suspected groin injury in their 0-0 draw with Inter Milan in the Champions League. He was hurt when running in on goal and being challenged by goalkeeper Yann Sommer and, following treatment, was substituted at half-time.

De Bruyne was due to undergo tests today but the 33-year-old is now a major doubt for the pivotal game against Arsenal.

Asked about De Bruyne's chances of facing the Gunners at the Etihad, Guardiola said: "I don't know. I will have more info [on Thursday]. The doctor said to me he was not ready to play [the second half]."

Rodri made a first start of the season last night, while second-half substitute Phil Foden is yet to play a full 90 minutes.

With Nathan Ake injured, Guardiola was asked if facing Arsenal so early in the season may mean his side are undercooked.

"Maybe," he said. "But it is what is. I don't control the schedule."

Despite dropped points against Inter last night, Guardiola was content with City's display.

"We played so good," he said. "I love my team — we are a fantastic team. Inter are the masters of defending and in transition they are strong. Really pleased with the performance. It is the beginning of the season so these players will be better."
