After a total of ten years at the club, Kevin Trapp has left with immediate effect to join French side Paris FC.

The Saarland native moved to Frankfurt in July 2012 from 1. FC Kaiserslautern and soon became first-choice goalkeeper. After three seasons with the Eagles he completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he equally swiftly became a mainstay between the posts, making 91 competitive appearances for the club – over half of which were with a clean sheet.

Trapp won the Ligue 1 title, the French cup and the French league cup three times each during his time in the capital, as well as lifting the Supercup on five occasions.

The 1.89-metre custodian returned to Frankfurt in August 2018 and helped the Eagles reach the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in his first campaign back. He was also a key player in Eintracht lifting that trophy in May 2022, contributing a number of outstanding saves along the way as the club won its first European title in 42 years.

Trapp was team captain last season, in which Eintracht qualified for the UEFA Champions League via their Bundesliga placing for the first time ever.

In total he made 383 competitive appearances for the Eagles, including 293 in the Bundesliga – a club record for a goalkeeper. Oka Nikolov is the only goalkeeper to have played more competitive Eintracht games overall with 415.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche said: “Saying goodbye to Kevin Trapp is hard for all of us – and probably hardest of all for him. He was one of the faces of Eintracht for a number of years, a captain and a leader, and played a key role in our successes. In light of his performances and achievements, it was only natural for us to respect his wish to move on. Despite this departure, Kevin will always be part of Eintracht Frankfurt and he will always be warmly welcomed here.”

Kevin Trapp said of his departure: “It’s hard for me to find the right words today because I’m feeling a mixture of two emotions: excitement and sadness. I’m looking forward to a new chapter, but at the same time I’m sad to be saying goodbye to Eintracht. I was, I am, and I will always be an Eagle.

“I grew up in Frankfurt as a footballer and as a person. This is where I became an adult, where I matured. I love Frankfurt and every inch of this club. My club. I am, and always will be, one of you. We’ve written chapters together that will forever connect us – chapters from the heart.

“And yet, I’m leaving because I’ve found the perfect moment to try something new again – something that excites and challenges me. I grew into a leader during my time in Paris. I learned valuable lessons that I brought with me to Frankfurt.”
