Wales held on to a narrow win away to Kazakhstan after Kieffer Moore's first-half goal.

Craig Bellamy's side started well in Astana having a series of corners with one eventually providing the decisive goal.

With 25 minutes gone a corner was sent in from the right that Liam Cullen got a head to. Young goalkeeper Temirlan Anarbekov – who was a vital part of the Kairat Almaty side that knocked Celtic out of the Champions League qualifying rounds – got down to it but the ball only went as far as Wrexham's Kieffer Moore who was able to provide an easy finishing touch.

That goal seemed to wake Kazakhstan up with the home side growing into the game. Galymzhan Kenzhebek was the danger man for his side as he won the ball on the left before charging towards goal and firing a shot just inches wide of the post.

Kenzhebek went close just after the break as well. Again it was a vicious shot with his right foot that Karl Darlow managed to deny with a superb finger-tip save to tip it onto the bar.

Indeed, at times Wales had to dig deep defensively with young debutant Dylan Lawlor impressing at the back.

There was almost a dramatic late moment when Islam Chesnokov won a freekick on the edge of the area. Serikzhan Muzhikov took the resulting effort which bounced off the bar in what turned out to be the final kick of the game.

That result means Wales now have 10 points from five games with an important qualifying game against Belgium to come next month.
