Less than 24 hours before Bayern's first game in the FIFA Club World Cup against Auckland City, headcoach Vincent Kompany has given his thoughts on various topics surrounding Bayern Munich, including the Sané transfer, future transfer plans and player changes for the upcoming tournament.

  1. Kompany about the FIFA Club World Cup:

“We're here now and we feel like the tournament is finally starting. We're looking forward to the game and what the tournament can bring.”

  1. Kompany on Leroy Sané being included in the squad:

“He's still our player. As a club we look at what is important for us. Jamal (Musiala) isn't fully fit yet and we didn't want to lose a player in attack. That gives us time to integrate Jamal (Musiala) back. Leroy (Sané) was also keen to come here - this signal was important to us. He finished the season strongly with us and he will be a player who can pose a threat every minute. We will use everything we can to achieve our goals.”

  1. Kompany about potential transfers:

“Not a topic for me at the moment. My focus is on the tournament - the solution doesn't have to come now. We are well-equipped. A few players are out with injuries, but we have a really good squad together and we're excited for the tournament.”

  1. Kompany about Mathys Tel most likely joining Tottenham:

“As I've said, my entire focus is on this tournament. When there's something official, we'll talk about it.”

  1. Kompany on Adam Aznou's return to Bayern Munich:

“Adam (Aznou) is one of our talented young players here. I think it'll be a combination of playing an (immediate) role and gaining the experience of being part of a tournament like this.”

  1. Kompany about his new centre-back Jonathan Tah:

Jonathan (Tah) has leadership qualities. He communicates a lot and has shown his qualities in the Bundesliga already. Thanks to the national team, integrating him into our teams isn't quite as difficult. We're confident that he will help us quickly. Especially in his position, we have a few players who aren't fully fit yet - Minjae (Kim) isn't fit and Dayot (Upamecano) is not at 100% either.”

  1. Kompany on the goalkeeping position:

“We're very clear on this and already discussed it in January. Jonas (Urbig) knows his role and has done a great job. Manuel (Neuer) has also been at his best in recent games. Everything's been resolved and we're happy that we have many talented goalkeepers.”

  1. Kompany about Bayern's first opponent, Auckland City:

“It happens more often in the national team that you play against supposedly smaller teams. We're playing against a team that'll be very compact and waiting for their moment. It's important that we show them respect. We want to approach the game seriously and do our job. We'll prepare for all games like we always do.”

  1. Kompany on his goal at the FIFA Club World Cup:

“At Bayern, we always have the highest possible goals. Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, but also Boca Juniors and other teams have the same goal as us. We want to go into the tournament with full faith. It's all about the details - you have to believe that you'll always get a moment.”

  1. Kompany about the potential line-up in the first game:

“It's possible that some of the guys who arrived late (international players) won't start against Auckland City. The only real doubts however, are with the players who were injured for a long time - the national team players have trained fully. We'll have to see how we can integrate Jamal (Musiala), Dayot (Upamecano) and Minjae (Kim) back into the team. We have to win the group games first, the impact of those three players would surely increase when we get to the knockouts.”

  1. Kompany on Michael Olise potentially replacing Jamal Musiala:

Michael (Olise) can also play at the “number 10 position” - but he was one of the best players on the wing last season. We'll have to see what's best for the team. We've had discussions and if he's needed centrally, he'll play there.”
