Leeds United battled to a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, stretching their unbeaten run to seven. The point lifted Daniel Farke’s side above Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace into 14th with two games left.
Mathys Tel put the hosts ahead five minutes into the second half, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin levelled from the spot after a high boot on Ethan Ampadu. Late on Leeds almost snatched it, but Antonin Kinsky denied Sean Longstaff. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the display quashed talk of them being on the beach.
Jayden Bogle missed out with a hamstring issue, with he and Facundo Buonanotte joining Gabriel Gudmundsson, Noah Okafor and Ilia Gruev on the sidelines. Pascal Struijk then went off with a hip problem in the second half. With safety assured, the timing softens the blow and shows how quickly a squad can look threadbare.
With academy prospects Rhys Chadwick and Jayden Lienou on the bench, the substitutes delivered as Sebastiaan Bornauw, Lukas Nmecha, Willy Gnonto and Longstaff all contributed. Cases could be made that Gnonto, Longstaff and Nmecha outperformed Dan James, Ao Tanaka and Brenden Aaronson.
Leeds will not roll over, but their job is essentially done. They were mathematically safe with three to play and are closer to eighth than 18th. Players and staff saluted the travelling support, and a rousing Elland Road reception awaits in their final home match on Saturday.
