The France captain Kylian Mbappé netted his second of the night against Iraq on Monday, not long after a near two-hour stoppage.
As reported by L'Équipe, the move began with a calamitous misunderstanding in the Iraqi defence.
The goal arrived 10 minutes after the restart, in the 54th minute, to further stretch France's lead. Zaid Tahseen and goalkeeper Ahmed Basil failed to deal with a routine ball, allowing Ousmane Dembélé to collect in the box and tee up Mbappé for an unguarded finish.
The Real Madrid forward moved to 60 goals for France with this strike.
It was also his 16th World Cup goal, taking him level with Miroslav Klose, while Lionel Messi had overtaken Klose a few hours earlier with a brace against Austria.
