Kylian Mbappe set multiple Champions League records on a landmark night for Real Madrid, yet Bayern Munich ended their run.

Goal.com notes that the 27-year-old embodies Madrid's new era. In the second leg at the Allianz Arena, he scored late in the first half to claim his 15th European goal of the season.

That haul draws him level with Karim Benzema as the second-highest scoring Frenchman in a single Champions League season. Only Stephane Guivarc'h has managed more for a French club in one UEFA season, with Auxerre in 1997-98.

Mbappe also became the youngest to reach 70 Champions League goals, doing so at 27 years and 116 days. He eclipsed Lionel Messi, who was 27 years and 134 days when he hit the same mark.

He is the first player to score 10 away goals in a single European Cup or Champions League season.

Despite his feats, Madrid lost 2-1 in the first leg and 4-3 in Munich, exiting in the quarter-finals.

Mbappe has 40 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions. Even so, Madrid are out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey, and trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by 9 points. He is on the verge of a trophyless campaign.
