La Liga has given the green light for the Barcelona-Valencia clash, part of matchday 4, to be exceptionally held at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on Sunday, September 14, if the Spotify Camp Nou does not secure its opening permit in time.
The league body has recognized the delays in the Camp Nou renovation as a case of force majeure. Following an initial inspection on August 27, they set a tight deadline for the club to address several crucial technical issues: installing and calibrating the VAR cameras, upgrading fiber optics to guarantee top-quality TV broadcasting, and adapting the watering system to protect the pitch.
With only 6,000 seats available, the Johan Cruyff falls short of the minimum 8,000 required, but LaLiga has approved the exception due to the lack of an alternative venue. With the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys and Montjuïc unavailable, the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper is being readied in a race against the clock.
If the final safety certificate for the works is delivered on time, the match could still be played at Camp Nou, with a temporary capacity of 27,000 spectators. Otherwise, the Johan Cruyff will be the stage for this encounter.
