The uncertainty surrounding Real Madrid’s first La Liga match of the 2025/26 season against Osasuna – scheduled for 19 August – continues.
According to reports earlier today, the Spanish capital club allegedly sent an official letter to La Liga requesting the match be postponed and rescheduled for 29 October.
It was said that the Merengues had reached an agreement with Osasuna as well as the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over the new date before writing to La Liga requesting the postponement.
However, La Liga says otherwise. Sources within the league confirmed to Mundo Deportivo that no such letter from Real Madrid has been received requesting the postponement of their opening fixture against Osasuna.
The league does not rule out the possibility of receiving it in the future, but as of now, the request does not exist.

Should the request eventually arrive, La Liga stated that they would review Real Madrid’s arguments and make a decision based on the circumstances.
The league also emphasised that it will strictly adhere to the collective bargaining agreement and regulations set by both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regarding such matters.
The conflict arises from the scheduling of the FIFA Club World Cup so close to the new league season, as Real Madrid have now made it to the semi-finals of the tournament in the USA.
The Footballers’ Association of Spain (EFA) has been urging La Liga to push Real Madrid’s game forward to ensure appropriate rest period for the players. Whether the league agrees or not remains to be seen.
