On Wednesday, Joan Laporta has sworn in for his fourth term as Barcelona president, and among those in attendance was Javier Tebas. The La Liga president was invited to speak at the inauguration, which gave him an opportunity to address one key topic: the Catalan club’s financial situation.

Firstly, he started his speech by congratulating Laporta on winning the election in March against Victor Font. As per MD, he also credited the Barcelona president on the club’s redevelopment of the Spotify Camp Nou, which he sees as a major positive for Spanish football as a whole.

“I congratulate Joan Laporta and the Board of Directors for the success of these elections and because I am sure that Barça will have sporting and infrastructure successes. For an institution like La Liga, the reform of the stadium is important for the club, for Spain and for the world.”

Tebas confirms positive Barcelona financial situation

On Barcelona’s finances, which are close to being back to relative normality by way of a return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule, Tebas again offered his congratulations to Laporta and Barcelona for their efforts. He also played down claims that he has a poor relationship with the Catalan club on the back of several instances of public clashes over the last few years.

“They have been hard years, but they are already on a great road and they have nothing to envy to any club in this country. Congratulations for placing the club in economic sustainability. We have lived through moments of differences, but the important thing is to do it with institutional respect. We will always try to look for the best for our football. We share the goal of making LaLiga great and Barça’s successes are La Liga’s successes, that makes Spanish football greater. The success of FC Barcelona is the success of La Liga.”
