Barcelona are planning to move on several players during the summer transfer window, which opens for business next month. They want to sell players no longer counted on by Hansi Flick, while there will undoubtedly be others that need a loan move in order to play regular first team football at a higher level than the fourth tier, which is where Barca Atletic are currently located.
Toni Fernandez is one of those that is likely to fall into the latter category. The 17-year-old, who was on the periphery of the first team throughout last season, is rated very highly within Barcelona, to the point where he is considered to be far too good to play for Barca Atletic.
Fernandez will have chances to stay with the first team, as he will be one of several youngsters to train under Flick’s orders during the early stages of pre-season. But if it is decided that he won’t be needed, an loan would be very likely, and in preparation of this call being made, Diario AS have reported that Alaves are preparing to move for the teenage winger.
Alaves narrowly avoided relegation from La Liga last season, but given that they are still in the top flight of Spanish football, they would have an increased chance of signing Fernandez on loan. The case of Jan Virgili, who thrived at Mallorca during the 2025-26 season, is one that the Vitorians will believe they can also do with the teenager, albeit with a loan rather than a transfer.

As mentioned, Flick will run the rule over Fernandez during pre-season, and the likelihood is that there will be no place in his squad for the talented winger. When the time comes, Alaves could have every chance of securing his services for the 2026-27 campaign.
