The latest edition of El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid has once again generated controversy away from the football pitch after La Liga denounced several offensive chants heard during the match at Camp Nou.

According to Defensa Central, the league documented multiple incidents involving abusive chants directed towards Real Madrid players and supporters during Sunday’s encounter.

The report was later submitted to both the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Anti-Violence Commission.

Vinicius targeted during El Clasico

As has unfortunately happened on several previous occasions, Vinicius Jr. was once again one of the central targets during the match.

La Liga’s report identified 14 separate incidents throughout the game, beginning as early as the second minute.

While there were no racist insults recorded this time, the Brazilian winger still faced repeated personal abuse from sections of the crowd.

The report claims Vinicius was the only player specifically targeted with chants directed personally at him during the match.

Among the chants included in the report were: “Madridistas, sons of b****s”, “F**king Real Madrid”, “Madrid, you b**tard, say hello to the champions”, “Jump, little kangaroo, and f**k the Madridistas”, “Vinicius, you b**tard, say hello to the champions” or “Step on him, step on him”.

The hostile atmosphere surrounding Vinicius during away matches has become an increasingly sensitive topic in Spanish football over the last few seasons, particularly given the number of incidents previously reported across different stadiums.

Warning was issued

The outlet also states that stadium authorities attempted to intervene during the game through an official announcement over the public address system.

According to the information released, the following message was broadcast inside the stadium and displayed on the LED screens.

“Please be reminded that legislation on the prevention of violence in sport prohibits and penalises active participation in violent, xenophobic, homophobic or racist acts.”

Despite the warning, the chants continued during different stages of the match.
