Nico Williams is making it clear: his heart is set on Barcelona, even if it means saying no to more lucrative offers from Europe’s elite.

The Athletic Club star has emerged as a top target for Barça this summer, and despite significant interest from Arsenal and Bayern Munich, the Spanish international is willing to do whatever it takes to seal a move to Camp Nou.

That is according to Diario SPORT, which claims Nico has already told his agent and Barça officials that he’s prepared to accept a much lower salary.

This is despite the fact that Arsenal have proposed a better offer, amount to around €9 million net per season.

The 21-year-old is ready to sign for Barcelona on similar terms to his current deal with Athletic Club, as long as the sporting project is solid and includes him.

His agent recently met with Deco in Barcelona to deliver that very message. Nico’s camp knows Barça can’t compete financially with Arsenal or Bayern, but money isn’t the priority.

The player wants to wear the Blaugrana shirt and grow under Hansi Flick, even if he isn’t the club’s first-choice target for the left-wing spot.

The 21-year-old is convinced he can grow under Hansi Flick, fit into the club’s style of play, and settle seamlessly into a dressing room filled with familiar faces.

He’s already close to several Barcelona players, including Lamine Yamal, who’s reportedly pushing behind the scenes to bring him to Camp Nou.

However, not everyone at Barcelona is sold. There are internal concerns about rekindling a “friends club” dynamic, where personal ties can complicate things when results dip.

Moreover, Barcelona’s biggest roadblock could be reaching an agreement with Athletic Club, who have made it very clear that they will allow the player to leave if Barça pay his release clause.
