With 17 matches left, LaLiga has a perilously crowded bottom half. According to Superdeporte, more than half the division are now in the relegation fight.
Under Lim’s stewardship, Valencia remain in the lower pack, while Celta and Espanyol push upwards. Real Sociedad, Athletic Club and Sevilla have been dragged into awkward territory.
Valencia avoided worse only because Largie Ramazani converted a last‑gasp penalty in a 3-2 against Espanyol, otherwise Carlos Corberán’s side would sit above only Levante UD and Real Oviedo.
Between Real Sociedad, eighth, and Levante, nineteenth, sit 12 teams split by 10 points, with Levante holding a game in hand against Villarreal on 18 February. From ninth, Osasuna on 25, to Mallorca on 21 in the final drop spot, the gap is four points.
Real Sociedad lead this mini‑league on 27 after three straight wins, two clear of Girona and Osasuna and three ahead of Elche CF, Sevilla and Athletic. Valencia’s next Copa opponent is only one point ahead after five without a win and just one draw in their last six league games.
Alavés’ surprise 2-1 win over Betis heated up the scrap, though they have lost Carlos Vicente to Birmingham of the Championship. The win dragged them out of trouble and halved Valencia’s cushion from four to two. Getafe’s draw at Girona, after leading late, pushed Mallorca into the bottom three with Levante and Oviedo. Mallorca have one win in five, 3-2 against Athletic.
Results swing the table by the hour. Athletic are juggling survival and a Champions League last 32 push. Though Oviedo and Levante sit below 20 points, Levante have improved under Luís Castro, scoring six against Sevilla and Elche and taking six of the last nine.
