The first 45 minutes of the UEFA Champions League contest between FC Barcelona and Newcastle United have been absolutely electric.

The second leg of the Round-of-16 tie, being played at the Spotify Camp Nou, saw as many as five goals in the first period, with Barça coming out narrowly ahead with a 3-2 scoreline.

A brace from Anthony Elanga cancelled out the Blaugrana’s goals scored by Raphinha and Marc Bernal within the first 30 minutes.

But, on the cusp of half-time, the Catalans’ talisman, Lamine Yamal, stepped up to slot home a confident penalty to put his team ahead.

The 18-year-old sensation’s strike was his tenth in the Champions League, which now makes him the youngest player ever to reach that landmark in Europe’s premier competition.

It also puts him on level with Real Madrid megastar Kylian Mbappe, who, until today, held the record for most Champions League goals scored before turning 19 years old.

Time and again, Lamine has stepped up for Barcelona in key moments, doing so again today.

What makes it even more impressive is that minutes before his goal, the La Masia gem had missed a clear-cut chance. But he did not let it affect his confidence and tucked away a brilliant penalty past Aaron Ramsdale.
