FC Barcelona suffered heartbreak last night as they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage. With the way the Blaugranes had played in this edition of the competition, hopes of their fans were high that they would go all the way; thus, being on the short end of a 7-6 aggregate score would be particularly painful for both the players and the fans.

However, as Pedri highlighted in his remarks after the game, the Catalans cannot remain caught up with this game too long, as they are still fighting for the La Liga title and have a crucial game against Real Madrid scheduled for the coming Sunday.

Two Barcelona players suffer physical discomfort

Although their UCL campaign is now at an end, this last match against Inter Milan can end up having implications for their league campaign as well.

This is clear from a report from Mundo Deportivo, which reports that two important Barcelona players suffered physical problems in last night’s match, while another important player returned from his injury.

One of the players in the earlier category was the defender Inigo Martinez, who was subbed out in the 78th minute after being completely exhausted and suffering discomfort. Similarly, his colleague in defence, Eric Garcia, was also subbed out in the 98th minute as he could not stay on the pitch any longer.

It remains to be seen how the highly demanding match impacts them going forward, though Martinez ensured after the game that he was feeling alright.

Robert Lewandowski returns

On the other hand, Robert Lewandowski made his return to the pitch as he was subbed in the injury time of normal time, and got to play the entire 30 minutes of extra time.

Thus, he would be in an even better shape to play the upcoming El Clásico, while Alejandro Balde is also expected to be ready for this match.
