Late winners for Tottenham and West Ham squeezed the Premier League survival race, trimming Leeds United’s buffer despite Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the results leave Leeds six points above the drop with four matches to play.
Leeds had moved nine clear in midweek, albeit with a game more than Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Tottenham, who all featured this weekend while Leeds were on FA Cup duty. Forest kicked off on Friday with a thumping 5-0 win at Sunderland to close to within one point of 15th-placed Leeds on level games.
On Saturday, Tottenham visited already relegated Wolves and secured their first league win of the year, 1-0, as Joao Palhinha struck eight minutes from time after a goalless stalemate had loomed. At the same time, West Ham led Everton on 51 minutes through Tomas Soucek, were pegged back by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall two minutes from time, then won it 2-1 via Callum Wilson in the second minute of second half stoppage time.
After those victories, Spurs remain third-bottom, two points behind fourth-bottom West Ham. The Hammers are now three behind Forest and four adrift of Leeds.
