Latest: South American source gives massive update on Estevao’s hamstring injury and World Cup fears

Estevao’s hamstring injury had Chelsea fans running scared – but it’s a “light” problem and shouldn’t have any long term effects.

Liam Rosenior answered questions about some of his injured players in his press conference this afternoon, but even since then there’s been an update on one of them.
Top Brazilian football site GE Globo are saying that Estevao’s hamstring injury, picked up 15 minutes into Saturday’s game against Man U when he burst through on goal, will rule him out for a few weeks, but won’t put his World Cup participation for Brazil in doubt. Reporter Cahe Mota says that Carlo Ancelotti is still planning on calling up the youngster when the squad is announced in a month’s time.
A couple of weeks without the winger may be the final in the nail of the coffin for Chelsea’s season – but it does at least indicate it’s not a really severe problem, which is a relief. A bad hamstring tear for a young winger can be career altering – and even a moderate one likely would have cost him his place at the World Cup.
By the time he’s back, Chelsea’s season will likely effectively be over. With that in mind let’s hope he’s treated with maximum care.
Nicolas Jackson has been off the radar a little bit recently because of Chelsea’s dreadful form, but his future it a question the Blues are going to have to answer soon.
