Latest warning from Chief Superintendent should have been heeded previously

I wrote yesterday about how the scenes we witnessed at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon could have been totally avoided if the behaviour of the home supporters had been dealt with a long time ago, and after reading a statement issued from a senior police official, I can only shake my head at the sheer disbelief.

However, the words that came from the mouth of Emma Croft, the Chief Superintendent of Glasgow have to be put into action, something that sees the Ibrox club being severely reprimanded for the behaviour of their supporters, as well as their shockingly bad security measures.

I’m not specifically having a pop at Emma Croft, as she wasn’t in charge during the previous violent flashpoints I’m eluding to, but her predecessors should have been preaching the exact same message after a chain of unsavoury events at the same venue, events that have been totally and utterly whitewashed to appease a certain football club.

Emma stated:

“It begs the question, does someone need to be critically injured or worse before this behaviour is treated with the seriousness it deserves?”

You seen this Emma?

Well Emma you should be aware of the attack on the Celtic supporters bus from Dundee by Rangers supporters from Belfast after the match. Here’s the statement from the Dundee Emerald CSC which details what happened and the outcome from this for one unfortunate Celtic supporter who was savagely attacked by a bigoted mob.

Yes Emma, never a truer word spoken, but something your predecessor Mark Sutherland should have been preaching just four years earlier in the aftermath of a disgraceful attack on a member of Celtic football club’s staff at the very same venue.

Celtic physio Daniel Friel

Celtic physio Daniel Friel was maimed and left with a permanent scar after being struck by a bottle thrown from a The Rangers supporter during a Glasgow derby at Ibrox, and yes you guessed it, the home side suffered defeat that day.

Also at the same match scattered glass from a broken bottle was discovered in the penalty area of Joe Hart before the restart of the second period.

This isn’t an isolated incident, with several other near misses having occurred at the same venue in the previous years, with our Supporters, players and coaching staff being subjected to harm by objects being thrown at the stands, as well as the pitch, and dugout.

Emma, maybe just maybe if your predecessors had have take the same stance, and clamped down on the home supports unruly and thuggish behaviour, then Sundays events which seen the home supporters charge onto the pitch, and assault yet another member of staff of Celtic Football Club, it’s supporters, and several match day stewards could have been avoidable…

This is not an Old Firm problem. It’s not a Glasgow Derby problem, It’s certainly not a Celtic problem. This is a Rangers problem and until that is understood, acknowledged and dealt with appropriately then these incidents will keep re-occurring.

It’s surely time to deal with the problem Emma.
