Lautaro Martinez insists his ‘first duty is to help the team, then if I score it’s a bonus’ while Davide Frattesi also assures Inter ‘cannot expect a goal per game’ from their captain.

The Argentina international was Capocannoniere last season and top scorer in the Copa America over the summer, but was yet to find the net at club level this term.

He broke that duck in style with a goal either side of the half-time break at the Bluenergy Stadium, helping Inter to secure a much-needed 3-2 victory away to Udinese.

“We suffered a bit, we know that Udinese are a good team and this is always a tough place for us to play. After the derby, we talked less and worked hard, I think you could see that attitude on the pitch,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN.

“It is certainly important for a striker to score goals, but I see it the other way around. My first duty is to help the team, then if I score it’s a bonus.

“I must keep working and try to take Inter higher and higher. The important thing is that Inter wins. We must stay humble and positive, raise the bar every day, because Inter need to grow.”

Frattesi takes weight off Lautaro Martinez

Frattesi had opened the scoring within 43 seconds, while Christian Kabasele and Lorenzo Lucca were on target for the hosts.

“What we talked about during the week was taking the right approach, which we didn’t have against Milan,” said Frattesi.

“You can lose a game, but not the derby the way we did, so this has to be a rebirth and only the start for us.”

The midfielder reassured his teammate and friend Lautaro Martinez, who was standing next to him during the joint interview.

“Lauti helped us to win the Scudetto last season, you can’t always ask him for a goal per game. He also arrived late, basically missed pre-season and is catching up, so he’s working really hard.”

Inter will be next in action on Tuesday when welcoming Crvena Zvezda to San Siro for the Champions League, having drawn their opener 0-0 away to Manchester City.
