Lazio 6-0 Flaminia: Aquile Make Short Work of Serie D Boys | OneFootball

At the club’s training ground in Formello, Lazio put six goals past their neighbors Flaminia in their second summer friendly test.

Gennaro Gattuso opted for a 4-3-3 formation that featured several youngsters, including 19-year-old centre-back Riccardo Baridon, who recently replaced his older brother Marco, who suffered an injury in the pre-season camp. The teenager joined Oliver Provstgaard, Manuel Lazzari, and Alfonso Pedraza in the backline, with Christos Mandas starting between the sticks.

In the middle of the park, Nicolo Rovella operated between Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Kenneth Taylor, while Gabriele Artistico led the line, flanked by Matteo Cancellieri and Federico Serra.

It only took Lazio three minutes to break the deadlock. Flaminia defender Marianti ill-advisedly tried to dribble past Cancellieri on the edge of his own penalty box. The Lazio winger easily dispossessed him before finding the bottom corner with his left foot.

In the 30th minute, the Aquile doubled their lead after a series of passes that included almost the entire team. Sana Fernandes, who replaced Serra in the 28th minute, made an immediate impact, picking up Pedraza’s run to the box. The Spanish left-back found Dele-Bashiru with a square ball, and the Nigerian only had to poach it home.

Ten minutes later, Lazio added a third goal from a corner kick converted by Rovella. The Regista played it to the near post, Cancellieri’s header flicked it to the far post, and Baridon was just able to reach it with his outstretched leg. The goalkeeper was able to put a hand on the ball, but it wasn’t enough to deny the teenage defender.

Lazio Change System After the Break

Gattuso switched to his preferred 4-2-3-1 system after the break, along with new personnel, except for Mandas and Rovella. The new backline consisted of Romano Floriani Mussolini, Adam Marusic, Danilho Doekhi, and Luca Pellegrini. Reda Belahyane joined Rovella in the double pivot, while Boulaye Dia played behind Petar Ratkov, with Tijjani Noslin and Mattia Zaccagni on the flanks.

It only took Lazio 25 seconds to add a fourth goal after the break. Belahyane picked up Noslin on the right flank with a sublime vertical play, and the Dutchman sent a delicate cross to the box that was volleyed home from close by Ratkov.

In the 58th minute, it was Rovella’s turn to get on the scoresheet following another lovely play. Noslin and Floriani Mussolini combined excellently on the right flank. The Dutch attacker then sent a cross to the box, which was chested down by Dia, who set it up for Rovella. The Italian came from behind to smash it past the goalkeeper with an unstoppable screamer to the top corner.

While the referee was preparing to blow the final whistle, Ratkov was tripped inside the box, giving Zaccagni the opportunity to join the goal carnival. The goalkeeper guessed it right, but the Lazio captain put enough power and precision behind it.

Lazio’s next friendly test will take place next Saturday against Avellino at the Mirko Fersini Stadium.
