Serie A side Lazio are set for a management meeting today aimed at resolving Alessio Romagnoli’s contract renewal situation.

According to a report by Corriere Dello Sport via La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri is set to have a meeting today with sporting director Angelo Fabiani to make a call on Alessio Romagnoli. Sarri considers the defender as a key figure in the squad and he is expected to request that the management tie the player down on a new contract quickly.

The Biancocelesti hope to offer Romagnoli a two-year contract, which would extend his stay at the club till 2029. However, the issue is that the club are not looking to increase the 30-year-old’s salary to keep costs down.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito promised Romagnoli a salary of around €3 million net per year but there have not been any concrete steps in that direction so far.

Owing to this stalled contract situation, Lazio now face the threat of losing one of their star players as Romagnoli is already receiving interest from Serie A clubs as well as from around Europe. The ball is in Lazio’s court and how they respond to this situation will determine where the defender plays next.
