Lazio’s internal tensions show no sign of easing, with Claudio Lotito and Maurizio Sarri trading shots. According to Il Messaggero, the hierarchy are irritated by Sarri’s repeated digs, particularly as no targets for European qualification have been set this season.
Sarri has been unhappy since rejoining last summer, not least due to the transfer ban. The 67-year-old said he stayed out of loyalty to his players and the fans, and he cannot promise anything beyond June.
The ban was lifted in recent weeks, yet the gap with the board widened. Sarri has not backed the club’s January business, lamenting Matteo Guendouzi’s departure and admitting he knew little about Petar Ratkov and Kenneth Taylor.
He was initially promised the final say on signings, the report said, but that has not always happened. He had requested Ruben Loftus-Cheek and either Giacomo Raspadori or Giovane, requests the club have not satisfied.
Lotito responded that recruitment is the management’s responsibility and Sarri should focus on coaching. After Sunday’s win over Hellas Verona, the head coach said the club have at times failed to sign profiles suited to his system, and aimed further barbs at Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani.
With the window still in progress, the outcome could further shape relations between president and coach. The situation remains strained.
