Lazio must renew their contract with Mario Gila as soon as possible before losing his services for a relatively low sum.

The Background

The 24-year-old is a Real Madrid youth product who joined the Italian capital side in the summer of 2022. Although he began his Roman experience on a slow note, he has now established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet. And yet, the Spaniard remains one of the club’s lowest earners, with a yearly salary of €1.1 million.

Lazio & Mario Gila Already Discussed New Contract

In recent months, Gila’s agent, Alejandro Camano, held talks with Lazio officials. However, the transfer ban imposed by COVISOC, doesn’t only prohibit the Biancocelesti from making new signings, but also from registering new contracts with their current players, especially if the deal includes a pay raise.

But according to Il Messaggero, the Lazio hierarchy must rectify this situation as rapidly as possible before it’s too late. As the source explains, the Barcelona native’s current deal will expire in June 2027, so his market value would plummet next summer if they don’t tie him down to a long-term deal.

Gila Still Dreaming About Real Madrid Return?

The report also notes that a return to Real Madrid remains a personal dream for Gila. Los Merengues still possess a 50% sell-on fee in case of a resale, which would translate into a discount if the Spanish giants decide to pursue their former player themselves.

Hence, this is an additional motive for Claudio Lotito and Co. to lift the transfer ban as soon as possible. Observers believe the situation could be solved between October and January.
