The Lazio directors will reportedly hold crunch talks with Alessio Romagnoli and Matias Vecino this week.
Both players are facing uncertain futures, albeit for different reasons. After Saturday’s draw against Juventus, Romagnoli took the opportunity to confirm what has been previously reported regarding the management’s broken promise.
The defender was supposed to earn a pay rise after helping the club book a Champions League berth by finishing second in the Serie A table back in the 2022/23 campaign, but Claudio Lotito and Co. haven’t kept their word. So while the Italian would love to stay at his beloved Lazio, he feels aggrieved by the aforementioned episode.
The 30-year-old also revealed that the two parties will sit at the table in the coming days, and according to several sources in the Italian media, including Calciomercato, the meeting could take place this week.
Romagnoli is currently Lazio’s second-highest-paid player with a net salary of €3 million per year. The source believes the management could offer him a pay adjustment that would place him at the top of the club’s wage bill alongside Mattia Zaccagni, who earns €3.5 million.
On the other hand, Vecino is seemingly happy at Formello, but his contract will expire at the end of the season. The midfielder has thus given his priority to Lazio before considering any other offers. The source believes he would be willing to sign a one-year extension if his salary is kept intact.
