Nuno Tavares tailed off significantly in the second half of the season after an explosive start, but his dip shouldn’t deter Lazio from activating their modest option to buy to retain him from Arsenal permanently, Il Messaggero informs (via Fantacalcio).

The clause amounts to €5M. Even though the team is frustrated with his injury problems, it is expected to pull the trigger anyway. They’ll evaluate later on whether they could turn a quick profit. However, his issues in the backend of the season have severely hurt his price tag.

Arsenal would be entitled to 40/50 percent of the fee should Lazio cash in on Tavares after redeeming him. He has totaled 9 assists this year. However, he dished out almost all of them in the first three months of the season.

Afterward, he has been in and out of the squad list due to minor thigh issues up until the recent leg versus Bodo/Glimt. He was rushed back from a previous problem and provided his contribution in the second half but bowed out at the start of overtime. The Biancocelesti haven’t disclosed the severity of his latest injury, but he’s rumored to have suffered a serious adductor strain that could sideline him for all the remaining fixtures.

Our Take on Lazio and Nuno Tavares

Unfortunately, the reason for his cheap valuation last summer eventually became clear. He’s been equally impressive and frustrating. Still, the figure is low. A quick sale isn’t out of the question. He’d be a great fit for a side that uses 3-5-2 and has another quality option in the same position. Otherwise, they’ll just have to find a way to manage him better next season.
