Lazio ‘to consider’ move for James Rodriguez | OneFootball

Reports on social media suggest Lazio are considering a move for Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez. Gennaro Gattuso is seeking a playmaker to fit his 4-2-3-1 system.

Lazio have missed out on Jonathan Asp Jensen, with Bayern Munich selling him to Deportivo La Coruña, while long-time target Jacopo Fazzini will soon join Cagliari.

Rodriguez was on the club’s shortlist two years ago. The 35-year-old is a free agent after his stint in Minnesota ended.

He made his name at Porto and Monaco before starring at the 2014 World Cup. That earned a move to Real Madrid, though he never fully delivered on that promise. He later played for Bayern Munich and Everton, then had spells in Qatar, Greece, Brazil, Spain and the United States.

A deal still looks unlikely on the current evidence. Lazio’s finances have imposed a net-zero transfer market, so they would certainly struggle to offer a competitive salary.

Targeting a veteran at this stage also runs against sporting director Angelo Fabiani’s strategy, which focuses on younger, often unsung recruits who can later generate a profit.
