Lazio are reportedly in the race for Udinese midfielder Martin Payero, and they might consider adding one of their two benchwarmers to the package.
The Biancocelesti have identified Empoli youngster Jacobo Fazzini as their primary target to enhance the middle of the park, while Chelsea’s Cesare Casadei is the reported Plan B. Nevertheless, Angelo Fabiani and his collaborators are keeping an eye on alternative tracks on the market, and one could lead to Payero, a 26-year-old Argentine midfielder who has been plying his trade in Friuli since September 2023.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Napoli are tracking the Udinese man, considering him the right profile to replace Michael Folorunsho who is seemingly on his way to Fiorentina after failing to prove himself at Antonio Conte’s court. Moreover, Atletico Madrid are also interested in the Argentine midfielder who could be available for €9-10 million.
The transfer market insider adds that Lazio still consider Payero as a potential option, even if their main objective remains signing Fazzini. The journalist claims that the Italian capital side is willing to offer cash plus the services of one between Gaetano Castrovilli and Toma Basic.
The Italian midfielder has been struggling with physical problems since his arrival at Formello, thus limiting his playing time, while the Croatian has yet to make an appearance this season after being omitted from the Serie A and Europa League squads.
