Matteo Cancellieri’s Career Path

The 24-year-old is a Roma youth product who made his big breakthrough after joining Hellas Verona. The Italian’s exploits at the Bentegodi convinced the Biancocelesti to splash circa €10 million to secure his services in 2022.

Cancellieri had a forgettable first campaign at Lazio, failing to make a significant impact at Maurizio Sarri’s court. The winger then spent the next two seasons on loan at Empoli and Parma, before returning to the Italian capital in the summer of 2025. He managed to earn his way back to the squad thanks to an impressive pre-season, assisted by the club’s transfer ban.

This season, Cancellieri competed for a starting role with Gustav Isaksen on the right flank, at least when both of them were healthy. He ended up registering 35 appearances across all competitions, contributing with four goals and two assists. While he managed to produce occasional flashes of brilliance, his performances weren’t always consistent.
