Trossard trained on Tuesday but did not make the matchday squad in Leverkusen
Leandro Trossard missed Arsenal's Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen after failing to prove his fitness in training ahead of the match.
The Belgian was a doubt for the first leg of the last-16 tie after he was forced off in the first-half against Mansfield last weekend.
Mikel Arteta had suggested that was not a major injury and Trossard then trained with the Arsenal squad on Tuesday morning.
However, the 31-year-old had not fully shaken off the issue and the decision was made to leave him out of the trip to Germany.
"Yes he trained yesterday but he wasn't comfortable to play," Arteta said.
"He said he was still feeling something. You need at this level to play 100% and he wasn't."

In Trossard's absence, Arsenal earned a 1-1 draw at the BayArena to leave themselves in a strong position at the halfway stage of the tie to progress into the quarter-finals.
Robert Andrich gave the hosts the lead with a header from a corner shortly after half-time, but Kai Havertz came off the bench to equalise with an 89th-minute penalty.
Havertz was making his first return to the BayArena since leaving Leverkusen in 2020 to join Chelsea.
The German spent ten years at the club and took part in a presentation ahead of kick-off. He also received a warm ovation when he came onto the pitch in the second half.
Havertz had to wait to take the penalty as there was a lengthy VAR review before the decision was confirmed, and Arteta was impressed with how he kept his cool.
"Yes how composed he took it," Arteta said.
"And yes, football is a funny game and it brings special stories. Him coming back here after such a long time, being part of this club, to come here and score such an important goal, I think it's a big moment."
