It has been an inconsistent start to the season for Huddersfield Town in League One.

After a busy summer transfer window that saw the arrival of 14 new signings, Huddersfield were widely tipped to win the third tier title this season, but they have failed to live up to those expectations in the early stages of the campaign.

As FLW exclusively revealed last month, Terriers manager Lee Grant was fighting to save his job at the Accu Stadium amid a poor run of form, but some of the growing pressure was eased on the 42-year-old as his side picked up a 3-1 home victory over Plymouth Argyle last Saturday.

Goals from Bojan Radulovic, Dion Charles and Cameron Ashia sealed a much-needed three points for Huddersfield to keep them within touching distance of the play-off places, but as well as potentially saving Grant's job, the game has opened up another debate among Town supporters.

Midfielder Ashia scored his third goal of the season against the Pilgrims as he unleashed a delightful strike from just outside the box in the 85th minute, and it is not the first time the 19-year-old has caught the eye this campaign.

However, despite some impressive performances, only four of Ashia's 12 appearances in all competitions this season have come from the start, and all of his five league appearances so far have been as a substitute, which has raised questions about whether he should be used more regularly by Grant.

Lee Grant urged to give Cameron Ashia a bigger opportunity at Huddersfield Town

When asked if Ashia should be handed more starts by Grant, FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit Graeme Rayner admitted he would like to see the midfielder given an opportunity, and he claimed he could be even more explosive than former Terriers stars Karlan Grant and Josh Koroma.

"I think he needs time," Graeme told FLW.

"I think he is a player that changes games and makes an impact.

"The reason he gets used as a sub is up for debate, some people think it's because he can come into a game late on and make an impact and other people think it might be indicative of some kind of issues with attitude or whatever behind the scenes.

"What I do know is that he's probably our most exciting player on the ball, he drives at people at pace, and he shows an ability to come in off the left wing and finish in a way that we've been used to over the years.

"Karlan Grant did it and Josh Koroma did it, but he seems to do it in a way that's more dynamic and more incisive.

"He hit his strike against Plymouth with full pace and full power, it was a cracking goal.

"He showed it against Man City in the cup, and they didn't put out a weakened side.

"He hit the post in that game with a really similar move.

"He drives at defenders, they don't like it because they're running backwards and he's going right at them, and then he just makes himself a little bit of space.

"He's really exciting from that point of view.

"He needs to mature, he needs to be able to do it for 90 minutes or perhaps start the game and do it for the first 60.

"It would be nice to see him being able to have that impact from the start.

"I think he's a really bright prospect, so I hope that does happen."

Lee Grant facing big Cameron Ashia dilemma amid Huddersfield Town pressure

After the influx of summer signings, Huddersfield's academy products may not have expected to get much of a chance in the first team this season, but Ashia has made himself difficult for Grant to ignore.

Despite some exciting cameos after coming off the bench, Grant has been reluctant to start Ashia in the league, and it is understandable that he has opted to stick with more experienced players to help get him results with his job on the line.

However, if Ashia continues to produce moments like he did against Plymouth, it will be tough for Grant to resist the calls for him to start, and as the Terriers have struggled for goals and creativity in recent weeks, he could be the perfect solution to their problems.
