Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach has been left out of Germany's 2026 World Cup squad despite his ankle injury not thought to be serious. Julian Nagelsmann named his group on Thursday morning without the 27-year-old.

Stach was hurt in the win over Brighton and Hove Albion, suffering what looked like a laceration around his ankle. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the issue is not considered serious and is believed to sideline him for two or three weeks.

An awkward landing left him tangled with an opponent, he received treatment, tried to continue, then was stretchered off. Broadcast pictures showed heavy bleeding through his sock.

Daniel Farke is due to provide a full update on Friday afternoon ahead of the West Ham United match. Stach had only recently returned to the national set-up, playing 10 minutes off the bench in March's 4-3 win over Switzerland, his first Germany involvement since June 2022.

In his debut Premier League season he has been central to Leeds' successful survival push, scoring five goals and supplying three assists. His duels, pressing, anticipation and set-piece delivery have underpinned both the defensive and attacking sides of Farke's system.

On Tuesday night he attended the club's awards on crutches with a protective boot, but was able to put weight on the ankle. He collected Goal of the Season for his audacious free-kick at Villa Park.
