Brighton have completed the signing of defender Pascal Struijk from Leeds.

Struijk has signed a five year-deal at the AMEX Stadium, leaving Leeds after an eight-year spell with the club.

“Pascal is exactly the sort of profile we wanted to add to the squad this summer, in that he’s got good Premier League experience and has his peak years ahead of him,” Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said.

“He really showcased what he’s capable of last season – great defensive actions while comfortable on the ball – with his style well suited to ours.

“He is also a leader, having worn the captain’s armband at times for Leeds last season. He is an excellent addition to the group and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Leeds explain decision to sell Struijk

Leeds say Struijk turned down a new deal at Elland Road, with the 26-year-old keen to move on.

However, the club also add that the sale of Struijk, believed to be worth around £20m, has helped the club to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules.

Leeds have also included a sell-on clause in the deal, meaning they will benefit should Brighton sell Struijk in the future.

“With the Dutchman entering the final year of his contract, at the end of the season, the club offered Struijk and his representatives a significantly improved contract,” Leeds said in a statement. “However, his desire for a new challenge was respected after eight-and-a-half years of fantastic service, with all parties acting with grace and decorum throughout the process.

“As was communicated at the end of the 2025/2026 season by chairman Paraag Marathe, it was explained how there would be both incomings and outgoings over the course of the current transfer window.

“Last summer, the decision was taken to keep all key players at Elland Road, to give the club the best possible chance of Premier League survival, with the expectation that player sales would be needed to remain PSR (Profit & Sustainability Rules) compliant over a three-year accounting window ending 30th June 2026.

“The club’s higher than expected 14th place finish and run to the Emirates FA Cup semi-final vindicated this decision, with the increased income and single sale of Struijk ensuring the club remains within PSR limits.”
