Leeds United loanee Harry Gray missed Rotherham United’s 5-0 defeat at Peterborough United on Tuesday night through injury, in what proved to be Hamshaw’s final match in charge.
The club said in a statement that, with the team six points from safety in Sky Bet League One, it had taken the difficult decision to relieve Hamshaw of his duties, adding that the process to appoint a new first-team manager is under way.
Gray, 17, joined the Millers on loan in January for the second half of the 2025/26 campaign and has been a regular. He has made 12 appearances, logging more than 1,000 minutes of senior football and scoring two goals.
He was a noticeable absentee when the squad was named at Peterborough, due to a slight hamstring issue.
It has not yet been confirmed whether he will remain with Rotherham to complete rehabilitation from what is thought to be a minor injury, or return to Thorp Arch.
