With seven games remaining, Leeds United’s relegation rivals Tottenham face familiar injury problems as Roberto De Zerbi begins his tenure, with Pape Sarr a fresh concern.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Tottenham confirmed De Zerbi as head coach on Tuesday after parting with Igor Tudor following a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest before the international break. Tudor lasted 44 days and departed with Spurs a point from the drop zone.

De Zerbi is believed to have signed a five-year deal without a relegation clause. His run-in includes hosting Leeds in north London in early May, the third-to-last fixture for both.

In his first remarks, he said he was delighted to join a prestigious club and that the hierarchy had set clear ambitions to build an exciting, successful team. He stressed the short-term priority is climbing the Premier League table and said he is eager to start work on the training pitch.

His debut comes at Sunderland. Midfielder Sarr missed Senegal’s 3-1 win over Gambia, reportedly due to a shoulder issue. He has over a week to recover before the Stadium of Light trip, but any absence would deepen the injury problems and hamper early work on a complex style.

Sarr has featured in 22 Premier League matches this season, scoring two and assisting three, and has been among Tottenham’s most consistent performers.

De Zerbi is already without Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma.
