According to Leeds Live, Leeds United have arranged a summer friendly with Manchester United in Dublin, a scheduling move that reflects their belief they can secure Premier League safety.
They sit four points above the relegation zone with the bottom four still to play, two at home. Daniel Farke remains very confident his side will collect the points required, and has said Leeds would not deserve to stay up if they do not.
Yet anxiety is growing among supporters. Leeds have gone four league games without a goal and six without a win, making the once favourable run-in feel trickier.
They return with an FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham United, a tie viewed by many as a psychological test in the relegation fight as much as a cup occasion. Fans want goals and a performance that restores belief.
Croke Park, capacity 82,300, will host the friendly on Wednesday 12 August, its first football, or soccer, match since November 2009. The date is 10 days before the Premier League starts and just two days before the Championship kicks off.
If United go down or if Leeds reach the Community Shield final, the Dublin match will be cancelled, although this remains hypothetical. Farke believes 40 points will certainly be enough, and with home games against Wolves and Burnley to come, Leeds retain control of their fate. Whether such confidence proves naive will be known by the end of May.
