Leeds United’s transfer business could accelerate after James Trafford’s arrival, with just under a month of the window remaining. The goalkeeper is set to become the third signing of the summer in a club-record £40million-plus move from Manchester City.

As reported by Leeds Live, Harry Wilson has arrived as a versatile attacker and Tarik Muharemovic as a replacement for Pascal Struijk, yet the USA tour underlined further needs.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s half-time introduction and brace against Liverpool highlighted the demand for a stronger support act. Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe, who did not feature in that game, both scored in the US but offered little beyond those moments.

Gabriel Gudmundsson’s first-half injury on Sunday reinforced the hunt for back-up in his role. James Justin has deputised well but, as a right-footer, prefers different passing and crossing angles to a natural left-footer.

Leeds could also add a midfielder. Talks with Southampton over Shea Charles have reached a final offer that will remain active for the rest of the window but will not increase.

Whether Charles is seen as opportunistic or part of a wider plan will dictate other moves. A number 10 may still be pursued despite Julian Brandt choosing Ajax, with Daniel Farke keen on a creator who can also play wide. A new number two goalkeeper is likely to be required too, with Torino expected to offer Lucas Perri a loan and the number one spot once Trafford arrives.
