Daniel Farke hailed new signing Tarik Muharemovic after the defender shone on debut in Leeds United’s 1-0 pre-season win over Sunderland in New Jersey.

The head coach, speaking in a video posted on X, noted it was the centre-back’s first taste of English football and first outing with team-mates. He noted the defender had to adjust to the intensity and age profile, and described him as a talented player with only a year at top level so far.

The 23-year-old Bosnian, a £34million arrival from Sassuolo earlier this month, started in a back three with Joe Rodon and Sebastiaan Bornauw. Strong defensively and assured in possession, he was Leeds’ standout performer until a late substitution.

The defender’s calmness, body language and reading of the game stood out, with multiple interceptions in a complicated contest. It was a high-quality first appearance, and the manager believes his potential is vast.

Fellow summer recruit Harry Wilson also started, having come off the bench at half-time in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Wrexham. He showed flashes of technique, while his many Premier League appearances, an outstanding season with goals and assists, and significant UK and top-flight experience underline his pedigree. The manager considers him a quality addition who will improve the attack.
