Farke made the post that last season's Leicester lost 11 league games, following the Whites' defeat at The Den on Wednesday.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made the point that Leicester City lost 11 league games during the 2023/24 season but still won the league title, following his team's 1-0 loss at Millwall on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post after the game, it seems as though Farke doesn't believe their defeat at The Den is too much of a setback for the Whites, who are aiming to secure a Premier League return at the second time of asking.

They were able to retain some key first-teamers last year, with the likes of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville shining for the West Yorkshire side last term.

And having finished in third place on 90 points, they were the favourites to secure a top-flight return.

Beating Norwich City in the play-off semi-final and setting up a tie against Southampton at Wembley, the Whites would have had plenty of belief.

But they fell well short of their standards that day and an Adam Armstrong goal consigned them to another season in the Championship.

They have done fairly well this season, sitting in third place, but Japhet Tanganga's goal meant they fell to a loss against the Lions, which isn't an ideal result for them in their promotion quest.

Having suffered play-off heartbreak in 2018/19 and 2023/24, Leeds will be keen to secure a top-two place, but they are no longer in the top two.

Harrison Burrows' last-minute strike against Bristol City allowed United to secure second spot - and the Whites have work to do if they are to seal an automatic promotion spot at the end of the current campaign.

Daniel Farke makes Leicester City point after Leeds United defeat

It seems pretty clear that the goal at Elland Road is promotion - and Farke made the point that their promotion quest is still very much alive despite their defeat in the English capital.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It's not like we start to doubt ourselves. We were here with a convincing performance for 70, 75 minutes but then it became a bit scruffy.

"Everyone celebrated Leicester, unbelievable points total but they lost 11 games. This happens.

"When you don't put the chance away it's not to doubt yourself too much. We have created so many chances and scored many goals. Today we did not.

"We've had clean sheet after clean sheet, today in one situation we had one mistake and sadly it was decisive. It's no major concern for me.

"The only answer is to want to win three points in the next game."

Leicester may have lost 11 league games last season, but many of them came during the latter stages of the term, when they were already in a strong position.

In fairness, the Foxes also benefitted from some results going their way when they collapsed during the late stages of 2023/24.

But they had such a big advantage earlier in the season and this allowed them to mitigate the effects of their slump.

Leeds must look to minimise their losses between now and the latter stages of the season.

If they can do that, they may find themselves in a position where they can afford to lose a couple of games.
