Leeds United’s reported interest in Callum Wilson has gathered pace after the 33-year-old was left out of West Ham’s matchday squad on Tuesday.
Claret & Hugh reports that Leeds are interested in a deal for the striker, that West Ham are prepared to let him go after signing Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, and that PSR factors make him attractive to the Elland Road hierarchy.
Supporters are awaiting business this month, and while the team are well placed in the Premier League, it is hardly a time for complacency.
His omission was his first absence from Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad this season. Wilson has experienced injury issues across his career.
He has scored in only three league games since moving to the London Stadium, so this would not be a headline-grabbing signing.
If he becomes available on a free transfer this month, bringing him in until the summer would surely be a no-brainer. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin surpassing expectations since arriving last year, and Lukas Nmecha proving a decent addition, Wilson could help confirm survival.
If he chips in with a handful of goals, the call would be justified. He may also feel he has a point to prove as West Ham seemingly move towards the baffling decision to let him leave.
