Leeds' left-back missed out on the second tier Team of the Season to Burrows.

Junior Firpo has launched a dig at the EFL and Sheffield United left-back Harrison Burrows following Leeds United's celebratory final game of the season at Elland Road.

Monday night represented exactly why Leeds are top of the league after 45 rounds of the 2024/25 championship campaign.

Their ability to tear teams apart going forward and, now, keep things tight at the back, since the introduction of Karl Darlow into the first-team in place of Illan Meslier, has been frankly scary.

They beat play-off-chasing Bristol City 4-0 at home, taking the aggregate score over their last two matches to 10-0.

It was a party atmosphere from the start at Elland Road. The yellow scarves that had been laid out on each and every home seat prior to the game gave the ground a beautiful ever-present glow, no matter where you looked. With the sun setting in the background, there was almost a gold-like tinge to the home of the title favourites.

Junior Firpo aims dig at EFL and Harrison Burrows after Bristol City battering

Three of Leeds' four goals against the Robins were scored by two of their most impressive summer acquisitions: Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani.

The winger's first was assisted by Firpo, 28, who has finally got to experience some success in a white shirt after suffering relegation and missing out on promotion last season.

He has had an incredible campaign. His cross-the-box ball to Ramazani notched him his fourteenth direct goal contribution in the league this season. His opposite number, Jayden Bogle, as well as Dan James and Tanaka, made it into the EFL's Championship Team of the Season, but Firpo's Blades counterpart, Burrows, was judged to have been better than him.

Firpo clearly didn't take lightly to this apparent snubbing, as was made clear in his message to the Leeds supporters following that glorious final night at Elland Road for this term.

"Still thinking about that atmosphere yesterday night, what a game and what a group you don’t deserve less than that performance," said the Dominican Republic international on X. "But the job is not done yet, this group is hungry for more so let’s do it once more.

"Yours Truly, the second-best left-back in the league."

Junior Firpo is right to feel aggrieved about his Team of the Season omission

Burrows has taken to the second tier better than some people may have expected, given this is just his second season of Championship football and his first with Chris Wilder's side.

But let's be real here: five goals, three assists and a play-off place pales in comparison to the numbers that Firpo has put up and the title that he is expected to lift.

It's hard to argue that anyone else came that close to the former Barcelona player, who is right to feel betrayed after playing so well across the course of the campaign.
