Immediate redevelopment at Elland Road is under way, with new aerial footage showing Leeds United’s first steps around the West Stand. Early works have already altered areas around the stand and neighbouring facilities.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, planning permission was granted earlier this year for a revamp that would take capacity to around 53,000. Leeds plan to build a new West Stand first, then turn to the North Stand to meet huge ticket demand.
Work began almost as soon as the final home game finished, with reporters told to vacate the under-stand media room by seven pm.
The video shows that the Portakabins, long used as away dressing rooms for Championship and Premier League visitors, have been removed. Supplied by York firm Britcab before the first season back in the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa to satisfy Covid protocols, they were returned to Britcab’s lab last week.
Also visible are the partial demolition of the ticket office and the building that housed some LUTV operations, and the floodlights had come down. Crests have been taken off the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand.
Behind the North Stand, a temporary structure expected to host corporate facilities during the works was already going up before the end of the season.
