Leeds United sign Tarik Muharemović from Sassuolo on five-year deal | OneFootball

Leeds United have completed the signing of Tarik Muharemović from Sassuolo on a five-year contract, their second permanent addition of the summer after Harry Wilson. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 23-year-old flew into Leeds on Thursday to finalise a medical and paperwork on a £34m deal. He arrives to reinforce Daniel Farke’s defence following Pascal Struijk’s move to Brighton.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina centre-back was a stand-out performer in his debut Serie A campaign as Sassuolo finished 11th in 2025/26, and he featured at this summer’s FIFA World Cup. He stands six foot four.

Muharemović began in Austria and made his senior bow for Wolfsberger AC in the top flight. After six matches he joined Juventus, developing in Turin and earning full international honours.

He moved to Sassuolo on loan in August 2024 and scored in his second game as the Neroverdi won Serie B and promotion. After 30 appearances the switch became permanent, and he added a further 33 outings last season across all competitions.

He has 17 senior caps and has played in the UEFA Nations League, World Cup qualifiers, World Cup play-offs and this summer’s finals. His season also brought headlines when Folarin Balogun trod on him in Bosnia’s World Cup meeting with the United States, the forward’s red card later being appealed by the US Soccer Federation, with US president Donald Trump calling FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Leeds are also in the race for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, held talks this week with the German free agent Julian Brandt, and continue to hold out hope for an agreement with Southampton for Shea Charles.
